Spellman and Walker Slum Lighting project is facilitated through advertising on the High masts erected in the respective settlements. It has been realized that advertising through lighting is an effective communication tool that enriches the quality of lives of slum dwellers, but also paves the way for slum upgrading initiatives such as road construction, electrification, water, sanitation and drainage systems; in addition to securing markets for our sponsors’ products and services.

These high masts are 30 meters high and light up an area of not less than 90, 000 square meters providing light to over 7, 500 homes in a densely populated slum. This project has been tested and proven to have provided a conducive environment for productive economic activities among the slum dwellers as well as enhancing security surveillance.

Slum Lighting Project

Poor or lack of lighting has been proved to fuel the rate of crime in any city. Independent research conducted in the United Kingdom established that lighting reduces the rate of crime by up to 40%. By putting in place proper lighting infrastructure, the extra resources allocated to curb insecurity could be redeployed to other sectors.
